Wheelchair Controller Finger Protector

Wheelchair Controller Finger Protector

While riding in my electric wheelchair, I noticed my index finger would rest on the side of my controller.  This would cause me pain as the bone in my finger was where the most pressure was.  My finger would be both very sore and very red.

I did some research and found that gel toe protectors worked really well at protecting my finger.  I have used both capped and uncapped toe protectors.  I used the uncapped ones to sit over my joystick as my joystick sits in the crease of my thumb and index finger and causes pain on longer journeys.  This worked but since using the capped protectors, I found this worked better as the uncapped ones could slip down.

I realised either of these would be good for the side of my controller too.  So I cut the top off the capped ones, then cut it in half and used super glue to stick it on the side where my finger rests.

Measure the area to be covered and then cut the toe protector to size.

Once you have the correct size, you can use super glue to stick in place.

Allow the glue to dry for approx 5 minutes.  You’re then good to go.

When you need to replace it, any remaining glue should just pick off.

Where To Buy?

I buy my gel toe protectors from Amazon.  I have previously found some in chemists and supermarkets but are not always in stock.  For those interested, here is a link to some I bought on Amazone:
